Dear God…

23 July 2007

I just finished watching Berserk…I’m at a complete loss for words….Jesus Christ…

I want to rip something up into very, very, very small pieces. That’s what I want to do. It’s honestly like waking up from something very, very, very bad and you wish you’d understand completely what the hell just happened! It’s like waking up from a nightmare and not being able to piece it together. What the hell happened at the end?!

I felt the same exact way. Great plot twists and then you get owned in the end. Great for action though.

just read ur response over at bateszi. i really should bookmark ur blog. ur just starting with the SATs?? how old r u? lol, shit only gets harder. lol happy we could convince u to check out berserk!! heres my review off anidb and animenfo

what is it about that anime… seriously tho i dont really understand my love for that anime because it is so true. i remember when i was first watching berserk back in 05, i had just discovered anime and i was using animenfo as a guide to find out what to watch next and it was in the top 10.
at first i couldnt get into it at, all and i almost gave up, until this song from the soundtrack came up, “gattsu” and i swear i became mesmerized. that song is so haunting especially when you think about the theme of the whole show, the concept of being, seeking your purpose, redemption and ambition. The show really is an existential experience, and the focus on the concept of existentialism is so raw that one has to question what purpose they serve in this world.

Berserk is an anime that takes you to another world. A world of warriors, magic, evil and beauty. The best thing about Berserk is the story. We view the world through the eyes of GATS. A lone warrior with a dark past. A man whose life was ripped apart when everyone he knew was killed, and the love of his life was taken away from him. I truly love this anime Because, if a course was ever taught on the concept of character development, the professor should show Berserk.

Not only is the anime pumped with action, you can also feel the mystery and conspiracies eating away at your skin. We learn about characters that have literally been through hell and back, but are still standing strong.

As far as i am concerned, every great anime that comes close to a masterpiece or is a masterpiece must have a love story. And the love story between Caska and Gats with grab your heart like a vice. Two souls that are perfect for each other but do not know it. Two kindred spiirits heading in different directions, yet bound to be soul mates. I love this anime. i remember when i first saw that ep, i think its 19 or 20 when they confess to each other and make love, i was in such awe that i spent 2 hrs or more trying to figure out how to screencap just so i could capture those moments. the catharsis in that moment alone when she stabs him and begins to cry reminds us that love is painful… it also reminds me why anime is a great medium.

the time invested into story and characters is just splendid. Moments like those, and characters like them is why i have become a lover of the medium, and i find myself continuously searching for animes that can exhibit such emotions and qualities. not because of a voice actor, or the figures, or the art or otakudom. its all about the story and execution.

Seriously man, Berserk is pretty phenomenal, and it gets me soooo mad when people bitch about the ending or the animation. It came out 10 yrs ago, it was the style. But the ending… the ending is what makes this anime the masterpiece that it is. As much as it leaves you wanting more, in its own way it is closure. because Gats` story is not about destination, its about the journey. Why is he angry, why does he continue to go on? And then Caska… the relationship btw both of them was so powerful how the got together, hated each other, and then discovered that they love each other.

i kept on hearing about the manga and how good it is, and how much superior it is to the show, and i gave it a shot… but i just couldnt get into it or invest in it. Because the ending after the credits when gats gets his new arm, and prepares to go save the love of his life regardless of the opposition… the fact that he loved her so much to walk through hell to bring her back, is enough closure for me. And that haunting song man… seriously get the ost listen to the song “gatsu” and u`ll actually feel like your part of the band of the hawk.

Berserk is a masterpiece, not only because it is supremely entertaining, but because it will break your heart many times over, you will cry, your skin will crawl, you will laugh with the characters like they were your friends, because you know how much they have been through… But the end of this anime reminds us why it has surpassed every other of its genre. It leaves you dying for more. Berserk is simply unforgettable. Perfection.

on another note i loved the ending of harry potter. as much as i love tragic endings, and i looooove tragic endings, harry had been through so much, more than anyother can had to have been thru. he deserved to be happy. he had barely ever known happiness. i loooved it. Snape had been through so much, everyone including us have hated him this past 10 yrs. And seeing Harry honor him in the end my name his son after him brought tears to my eyes. how can people not be moved by that?
seriously how is it corny?? if a man u have reviled and hated for 7 years, and even despised his very being turned out to have been ur protector, and even devoted his life to protecting you by making u hate him…. seriously man that is powerful. He chose to sacrifice the admiration of his peers and the son of the love of his life so that he could protect him and her memories. thats deep man. if anything i was hoping snape would get a heroes burial.

You know, you really ought to get your own blog! I’ll read it and bookmark it for sure. 😉

And, yeah, life makes me weep. After the SATs, I have like a dozen more standardized tests, not to mention just school in general. I wanna be seven years old again! T_T

I really liked the animation, despite the fact that it was old, there was something nice about the way it looked. Honestly, it doesn’t matter, the story is so much better than half of the newer, ‘prettier’ shows, I could care less.

The ending, the ending killed me. It’s brilliant, but I hate it. Ugh! I’m a sucker for tragic endings, too, but ugh!! I wanted a happy ending for Guts and Caska. Argh! I know what you mean, that episode when they finally got together, oh man, that was beautiful.

As for Harry Potter, I’ve never really been a fan. I was hoping to see the poor kid die. Sure, he’s been through a lot, but I still would’ve liked a tragic ending. It’s mean, but I never liked Harry as a character. He’s so…naive and whiny and so tragically inept at everything.

Snape, however, is a totally different story. The last book changed my entire perception of Snape. That was the best part of that book. Snape deserves a big ass trophy for what he did, and a hero’s burial.
