Perfect. Just perfect. I just want to thank this show with all my heart for showing me how absolutely wonderful everything is.
I’m a bit ashamed of you Xerox. The biggest anime in years and that’s all you have to say. Come up with something. Here’s what I would have wrote:
Honestly, what can be said about this show that hasn’t been said already. I mean, we have up to 26 all kinds of giant robots. First, it was the simple gamnen, all the way to the mighty cathedral terra, AKA Chougina Gurren-Lagann, a mech the size of the moon. But then, as if to insult all those, myself included, who said “It doesn’t get any bigger than that…” they come out with the mighty…
the ultimate…
Tengen Toppa Gurren-Lagann (which to the best of my knowledge means Maiking Breakthrough Gurren-Lagann)!
And then to make matters even more astonishing, the Anti-Spirals come up with an equally powerful mech that can toss galaxies around like shurikens. And even if it’s a rule in anime that the good guy has to win, I’m still overjoyed that Simon and the whole Gurren-Dan kicked his ass. But that only encompasses a fraction of the emotions that this episode filled me with. Simon reclaims Nia and just as they get married, Nia disappears forever as the last remnant of the Anti-Spirals.
And Simon, the champion of the Spirals, the hero of the universe, the man who can do no wrong. What is he to do? Resume his position as president? Lead the Spirals to even greater victory? Become a playboy millionaire? Nope! He goes off to dig holes somewhere. If it was anyone else, I’d call them an idiot and a loser. But this is Simon, so I say “Dig on, you man of men!” I mean, in the epilogue, Simon says that he is nobody anymore, and to a layman, that would seem depressing. But what more is there for Simon to do. He’s lived more of a life than anyone else possibly can, even Lord Genome who has lived for a thousand years. And somewhere, you know that Kamina is proud of him and the whole Gurren-Dan.
This series has inspired me to do many things, not the least is to make this AMV: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Qy-Xlr-e0dA . Not my best work, but it gets the point across (and if you like that, check out my better works, like this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sLYtiDboHJg ).
But still, questions remain unanswered. Who is the man that Lord Genome speaks of when he was still human (in episode 15)? What was that scene at the very start of the series about, the one that made me shake with anticipation of the coming episodes near the end? Sadly, this is Gainax, so we may never know.
Before I saw this series, I was in an anime slump. I couldn’t get excited about anything. But now, I am burning with anticipation of the next great series. And after seeing such an inspirational series, I will never be the same again.
After all…
Who the hell do you think I am?
Heh, I couldn’t think of anything at all. Not a word, not a phrase, not a single goddamn thing after I watched it. It’s not bliss, it’s not euphoria, it’s not even happiness or joy or sadness, or whatever, it was just some feeling, some feeling that words alone could not describe. I’m actually a bit ashamed of myself, too. Years later, when I look back and see that’s all I had to show for it.
It was the best ending to anything I’ve seen. Ever. You’ll hear more from me about Gurren Lagann, count on it. It’s not something I’ve going to forget easily, it’s not something I’m going to get over easily. Trust me, my fair friend, this is not the end, but rather the beginning.
I can confirm it’s not easy to write about something you love so much, I totally understand where you’re coming from Xerox. I started writing my last post on Gurren Lagann at 8:30PM this evening and it’s now 00:15, so I’ve spent nearly four hours coming up with words to describe, what, 23 minutes of animation? It’s a crazy situation, but I loved Gurren Lagann too much not to have one last stab at writing about it.
The OST is out.
Jubilations!
Hey, in case your looking to get your giant robot fix with a surreal twist, may I recommend Bokurano by Triad. I’m looking it up and it looks kinda good.
@bateszi – I know what you mean, I want to have like a conclusive end finish post thing about Gurren Lagann, but I have no idea how I’m going to do it. Man, this response is late, six days late. O_o
@The Laughing Fool – Listening to the OST right now. XD Break Through the Dream is going to be stuck in my head the entire day. I’ve thought about watching Bokurano, but I’m sure, isn’t it about a bunch of kids playing some sort of a game? O_o
